At one time it was the hub of Ruston.
Eventually, Dean Norton hopes the downtown area will be that way again.
The Harris Hotel was a Ruston landmark for years, situated downtown on Park Avenue across from the Kansas City Southern Railway tracks. In more recent years it housed Stow’s Bar before the building was closed due to deteriorating conditions.
Norton bought the building with plans to renovate it, and was helped in October when the project received a $10,000 Louisiana Main Street Redevelopment Grant to help with the restorations.

Graveside services for Martha Ann Sutton McCallum, age 79, of Ruston, LA will be held on Thursday, January 6, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at Greenwood Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Rev. Bill Reid under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home in Ruston. Mrs. McCallum was born on March 11, 1931 in Shreveport, LA and passed away on January 4, 2011 in Ruston, LA. She was preceded in death by her husband: J.D. McCallum and her daughter: Vicky McCallum Mitchell. Survivors include her son: James McCallum and wife, Sue Ellen of Ruston: Grandson: Scott Downs of Dallas, TX.
