Gospel performance benefits Patriot Paws

A gospel-singing concert from 2-5 p.m. at Lincoln Hall on Saturday will raise funds for service dog provider Patriot Paws. There will be up to 12 acts, including Grass Fire, The Camerons, Tina Bowen and others. Ten-dollar donations will be collected at the door.
Patriot Paws won’t be the only cause benefiting from the concert on Saturday. A portion of the proceeds will also be used for breast cancer research and an Order of the Eastern Star scholarship fund for those entering ministerial studies.

Betty Davis Willis, 71, of Arcadia, died Aug. 22. Open visitation will be from noon-5 p.m. Friday at King’s Funeral Home in Ruston. Family hour will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling. A twilight funeral service will be at 7 p.m. Friday at New Rocky Valley Baptist Church in Grambling. Burial will be in Harmony Church Cemetery in Arcadia.

Caroline Mamon Holland, 85, of Simsboro died Aug. 20. Open visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday at King’s Funeral Home in Ruston. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fellowship Baptist Church in Simsboro. Burial will be in Fellowship Church Cemetery.

Willie Jean Singleton, 70, of Ruston, died Aug. 27. Open visitation will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday at King’s Funeral Home in Ruston. Overnight drive through viewing will be from 4:45 p.m. Friday through 9 a.m. Saturday. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. Burial will be in Macedonia No. 1 Cemetery in Dubach.

Jones, Neview engaged to wed

Barry and Karen Neview, of Ruston, are pleased to announce the engagement and approaching wedding of their daughter Megan Marie Neview, of Ruston, to Jonathan Craig Jones, of Arcadia.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Frank A. and Irma Neview and the late Ralph and Evelyn Miksa.

Megan is a 2008 alumna of Bethel Christian School and attends Career Technical College. She is employed at Karen’s Hallmark.

Forums crucial for Grambling elections

More than two years of political turmoil and infighting have been enough for residents of the town of Grambling.
The numbers bear the proof. The town has 10 candidates running for mayor and 17 vying for five City Council spots.
After watching its government mired in a political quagmire for so long now, Grambling residents have to try to figure out what kind of leaders these tough economic times require. Which candidates can help free Grambling from that political quagmire? And which candidates are best to try to lead the town forward into an uncertain and daunting future?

Alexander, Garner to marry Nov. 20

Dustin Wayne Alexander and Anna Elizabeth Garner, both of Ruston, are pleased to announce their engagement and approaching wedding.

The bride-elect is the daughter of Cheryl and Troy Acree, of Shreveport, and Marty and Jeff Garner, of Roseville, Calif. She is the granddaughter of Mary Beth and Don McCullen, of Simsboro, Gloria and Joe Garner, of Shreveport, Elsie and Earl Acree, of Shreveport, and John Sutton, of Ponca City, Okla. Mary Elizabeth Byrd and the late Rev. Jack Byrd, of Minden, are her great-grandparents.

A memorial service for Paul Hurysz will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church (810 Casey Ave.). Reception to follow. A member of the Men’s Club, Knights of Columbus and active fan of Louisiana Tech sports, having had two of his children graduate from the university, he was a man who loved being social. All friends and those who know Paul are welcome to join us for a celebration of his life.
