Fame, fortune and gluttony can kill

On Monday we remember the life of our dearly departed king.
Our king grew tired and weary, and he could no longer toil on. At some point on Aug. 16, 1977, our king keeled over while he sat on his grand throne.
His girlfriend found him a few hours later, in a most unflattering position. The doctors in Memphis did their best to revive our king, but was it was not to be. Our king was dead.

Don’t leave your kids smoldering in the backseat

High temperatures in recent weeks have been in excess of 100 degrees. As bad as it is to be out working or exercising in the heat, there is a worse place to be — trapped inside a car.
According to a study by a San Francisco State University professor, 29 children in the United States have already died this year of heat stroke from being in hot vehicles. Since 1998, there have been 475 such cases.
It’s impossible to know just how many children are left in hot cars, since many parents or guardians make it back before the real damage is done. Just last week, a Ruston woman was charged with child desertion after she allegedly left her three children under the age of 10 unattended in a vehicle in the Walmart parking lot.
