Funeral services for Mr. Hewitt Douglas Carter, age 84, of Farmerville, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston with Pastor Steven Wilkins and Pastor Duane Garner officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston.

MedCamps announces Fun Shoot, auction

On Aug. 21, MedCamps of Louisiana will host its 16th Annual Fun Shoot, a sporting clay and archery fundraiser.
This year’s event will be hosted by Ouachita Parish Sheriff Royce Toney at the OPSO Training Center and Public Range.

Jones announces his candidacy for mayor

GRAMBLING — Grambling Mayor Pro Tem Edward Jones is looking to make a move up.
The alderman has entered this year’s mayoral race in Grambling. The election will take place Oct. 2.
“Let me take this opportunity to thank the citizens of Grambling for allowing me to serve as a city councilman these past eight years. This experience has been educational and rewarding,” Jones said.

Sanders has new role

Grambling State University has a new interim vice president for finance and administration in Leon Sanders.
The Gramblinite student newspaper reported this week that university President Frank G. Pogue confirmed via e-mail that Sanders had replaced Daarel Burnette.
