The Lincoln Parish Office

The Lincoln Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness (LOHSEP) has scheduled Meeting #4 for its Hazard Mitigation Plan Update as part of a grant program administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The Lincoln Parish Hazard Mitigation Plan Update Steering Committee meeting will be on Wednesday December 15, 2010 at 10:00 AM in the Lincoln Parish Police Jury Conference Room, Lincoln Parish Courthouse, 100 West Texas Avenue, Ruston.

PUBLIC NOTICE Notice is hereby given that the Lincoln Parish Detention Center Commission conducts a PUBLIC HEARING for the purpose of reviewing the Prosed budget for the year 2011 of the Lincoln Parish Detention Center. The Public Hearing will be held in the Conference Room, Lincoln Parish Police Jury, 3rd Floor of the Lincoln Parish Courthouse in Ruston, Louisiana, on December 20, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.

Charles Everett Holloway

Funeral services for Mr. Charles Everett Holloway, age 79 of Ruston, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, December 10, 2010 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston with Bro. Steve Ellis and Bro. Jerreld Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Holloway was born January 24, 1931 in Lincoln Parish to Idge Holloway and Dossie Holloway.  He passed away peacefully at his home on December 7, 2010.  He was a lifelong member of Lincoln Parish and well known throughout the community.

J. Donald “Don” Hammock

Funeral services for Mr. J. Donald “Don” Hammock, age 85 of Ruston, will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, December 10, 2010 at First Baptist Church in Ruston with Dr. Chris Craig and Dr. Andy Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Pines Memorial Gardens in Ruston under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mr. Hammock was born April 2, 1925 in DeQincy to William Thomas Hammock and Bertha Jones Hammock.  He died December 6, 2010 in Monroe after a lengthy illness. Mr. Hammock was an insurance agent for the  Brooks-Hammock Agency for over 40 years.

W.C. Ellis

W.C. Ellis, age 79, passed away on a December 5th, 2010 after a several year battle with cancer.  He entered and left this life at his beloved home in Clay, Louisiana early on a bright and crisp Sunday morning. The cows he loved so much were just outside his window with their regular morning greeting. W. C. was born on April 23, 1931.  The second child of James and Ledie Ellis.  He represented the third generation of Ellis’ to work the Northeast Louisiana farmland.

November Rotary students named

The Ruston Rotary Club proudly announces the recipients of the November Student of the Month Award. Recognized by Rotarian Jathan Maricelli, each student was honored at the Nov. 17 luncheon and presented an award of achievement by club president Andy Halbrook. Each awardee has maintained a minimum GPA of 3.5 and been active in extra curricular activities and leadership roles on their respective school campus.

The Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools announced Tuesday the reaffirmation of accreditation for GSU during its December meeting.
