The board of directors for the Dixie Center for the Arts would like to thank Lawrence Gibbs and the all-volunteer Russ-Town Band for once again presenting their annual program of beautiful Christmas music on Dec. 17. “A Russ-Town Christmas” offered a combination of classical and popular tunes that were enjoyed by the approximately 340 patrons in attendance.

She had the look of total fear. Under no circumstances would she let go of her mama. She did not want to go and she wasn’t happy; that is, until Mama decided to go with her.
When they both sat down, she was still not happy. She had a look between horror and puzzlement. Even when the picture was being taken, her little lips pursed and she was not going to smile — not at all, because she wasn’t real sure about what was going on.

Traffic warrants caution during holiday travels

Caution is always warranted when it comes to driving, but now, in the days after Christmas and up to New Year’s Eve, is a time for heightened awareness. With Christmas behind us, many people will say goodbye to friends and family and travel home. The roadways will have more traffic, and with more traffic comes more danger. Regardless of the distance traveled, people should wear their seat belts. On Monday in Lincoln Parish, a car crash claimed the life of a man who did not wear his safety harness.

Who dats look to feast on dirty birds

Christmas has come and gone, but I’m still waiting for my holiday wish.
I’ll have to wait even longer. You see, what I really want for Christmas is a Two-Dat. And I know the entire Who Dat Nation is joining me.
We won’t even get to do the Benson Boogie today. But hopefully we’ll all be dancing Monday night following a win over the Dirty Birds from Atlanta.

FRANKLIN — The Louisiana Tech women’s basketball team made an important detour this past weekend during a trek into south Louisiana to play games in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.
Teresa Weatherspoon and Company headed southwest on US 190 out of the Big Easy mid-Saturday morning with a destination and purpose in mind that had nothing to do with the game of basketball.

LHSAA salutes state champions of fall

The LHSAA wishes to congratulate the following state champions as the competitive season for fall sports comes to a close.
Football champions were decided at the State Farm Prep Classic at the Louisiana Superdome on Dec. 10 and 11. The games were exemplary of the quality and integrity of Louisiana’s interscholastic athletic competition, as each game was decided by 14 points or less.
