Gwynneth Sweet Peterson

Gwynneth Sweet Peterson, 67 of Junction City, AR, died Friday, November 19, 2010 at her home following a sudden illness. Born on June 9, 1943 in Taylor AR; she was the daughter of James E. and Theo Nadine Waller Sweet. Gwynneth was a member of Corney Creek Baptist Church. She retired after 20 years with Foster and Ball Glass Co. in Simsboro, LA. Gwynneth loved her many nieces and nephews, she was very fond of Austin and Lakeon Thurmon. Gwynneth also enjoyed Louisiana Tech Athletics especially Lady Techster’s Basketball.

Funeral Services for J. L. Porter, age 83, of Ruston, LA, formerly of Jonesboro, will be held Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Edmonds Funeral Home Chapel at 2 PM. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery in Quitman. Visitation will be from 4 PM - 8 PM Saturday, at Edmonds Funeral Home, Jonesboro, LA. Mr. Porter was born on January 25, 1927 and passed away on November 18, 2010. Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Floy C.

Margie King Watts

Margie King Watts died unexpectedly Wednesday, November 17, 2010 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, La. She was born January 15, 1926 to the late Bob and Fay King. She was a native and resident of Arcadia, LA and a lifelong member of Alabama Baptist Church. Funeral services will be 11am Saturday November 20, 2010 at Alabama Baptist Church and burial will follow at the Alabama cemetery. She is survived by two daughters Betty Watts Nichols and husband John of Memphis, TN and Judith Watts Lanclos and husband Stephen of Baton Rouge, a son, Jeffrey L.

Police seek armed robbers

in

A clerk at the Delta Mini Mart on Cooktown Road was reportedly held up at gunpoint at 10:15 p.m. Sunday. Tim Parker, public information officer for the Ruston Police Department, said officers arrived on the scene after two suspects had fled.

Tech graduates first class of executive MBAs

Three hundred twenty-eight graduates received diplomas at Louisiana Tech’s commencement ceremonies held Saturday at the Thomas Assembly Center. Included in the graduation class were the first 14 graduates of Tech’s executive MBA program.

Master Gardeners

The North Central Louisiana Master Gardeners Association met Nov. 9 at the Union Parish Extension Office in Farmerville. President Jennifer Ates-Fussell called the meeting to order and discussed plans for the Ag Expo to be held at the Ike in West Monroe Jan. 14-15. The sale of bluebird boxes will be the fundraiser at the Expo.
