J. Edwin Carothers passed from this life Monday, December 20th, 2010. He was born March 26th, 1916, in Doddridge County, WV, son of Joseph and Lilly Smith Carothers, who preceded him in death.  “Ed” graduated with a B.S. in Forestry and a M.F. from the University of Michigan, a M.S. in Agricultural Economics from Iowa State University, and a Ph. D from Michigan State University.  Dr. Carothers retired from Louisiana Tech University in July of 1986 after teaching there for more than 20 years. He and Susan Nickell of Hazel Green, KY, were married June 18th, 1944. They had two children: James L.

Tassie Chipmon Castle

Funeral services for Mrs. Tassie Chipmon Castle, age 86 of Dubach, will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Owens Memorial Chapel in Ruston with Rev. Leroy Skipper and Rev. Jimmy Barmore officiating.  Burial will follow in Longstraw Cemetery near Choudrant under the direction of Owens Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Ruston. Mrs. Castle was born December 1, 1924 in Winnsboro to William Ellis Chipmon and Annie Mae Brown Chipmon.  She died December 20, 2010 in Ruston.  She was a member of The Pentecostals of Ruston.

THE GRAMBLING FIRE DEPARTMENT

THE GRAMBLING FIRE DEPARTMENT is seeking applications for the one Firefighter. Applicants must have a high school diploma or G. E. D. equivalent. Applicants must be 18 years old and have a valid driver’s license and a social security card. Must successfully complete the Fire Academy within (1) one year of employment. Applications can be obtained from Grambling Fire Department, 562 Stadium Drive, between 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The deadline to submit your application is January 7, 2011.
