Cougars, Aggies on roll

Two common factors in the success for the Cougars and Aggies have been solid pitching and offense in recent weeks.
During its 10-game winning streak, Cedar Creek has averaged 11 runs and allowed the opposition an overall total of only five runs.
Choudrant has averaged 13.1 runs while issuing a total of 16 during its eight-game winning streak.
Further evidence of the stingy pitching of both the parish representatives is that Cedar Creek has recorded six shutouts in the past 10 games and Choudrant has registered “goose eggs” three times.

Just how disastrous was it?

The sludge destroyed 12 homes, though no one was directly injured. However, an unprecedented fish kill occurred in the Tennessee River and area tributaries in the aftermath of the spill. According to John Moulton, a spokesman for the Tennessee Valley Authority which owns the plant, a test of river water near the spill site found elevated levels of lead and thallium, both of which have been linked to birth defects and nervous and reproductive system disorders.

Local giving sets example

At the outset of a fundraiser, many groups have been wary of what their totals will be. They know all too well the struggles Louisiana residents are facing in light of layoffs, furloughs and general belt-tightening as families try to preserve their lifestyles and plan for the future. Yet, our local nonprofits have not been disappointed. The community has rallied around groups like the Domestic Abuse Resistance Team, which raised well over its $20,000 goal during its recent radiothon.

Swinging into postseason

But to reach Saturday’s round of action, the Lady Cougars (24-7-1) and Lady Aggies (27-5) must take care of business in quarterfinal play at Sulphur’s Frasch Park Friday.
Cedar Creek will take an eight-game winning streak into a 4 p.m. Class 1A duel against Oberlin (19-10-1) before Choudrant carries its 19-game string of victories into a 6 p.m. Class B meeting versus Grace Christian (12-13).
