Choudrant sets events for Saturday in the park

So far, Sanderson said about seven teams have either signed up or are planning to sign up for the quarter-mile Outhouse Derby, which will be double elimination and take place in downtown Choudrant. During the derby, the outhouses will be driven forward by gravity, after up to two individuals push the competitors 40 feet before letting them loose downhill.

Tech, GSU: Tourney time

In Birmingham, Ala., beginning at noon Wednesday, the Tigers (14-35, 10-13) have a first-round assignment against Jackson State (35-19, 15-9) in the Southwestern Athletic Conference tournament.
“You just want to keep your season going as long as you can now,” said GSU coach Barrett Rey. “Every game you play from here on is a bonus for your players and program.”
The two Lincoln Parish teams wrapped up their regular seasons this past weekend.

Poultry plant decision due

After a long ordeal of wheeling and dealing behind closed doors to bring about a deal Pilgrim’s Pride finally tentatively accepted, the bankruptcy court’s decision is expected to be in the affirmative.
The completed deal won’t come a second too soon. The closure of the poultry plant led the way to a 30 percent jump in initial claims for unemployment benefits last week in Louisiana, the Louisiana Workforce Commission said.

Partnership gives students opportunity

The shock of the new university setting coupled with more intense classes and higher expectations can challenge some new college freshmen. For many students, having the chance to experience these types of classes while still in high school will allow the transition to a university to be that much smoother.
Some Ruston High students already are taking dual-enrollment classes on their own campus through the school’s Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics program, known as STEM.

Teacher wins trip to ‘American Idol’ contest

The kindergarten teacher secured her tickets and expense-paid trip to the championship episode by answering a question about the show correctly and then winning a raffle drawing in a trivia contest hosted by Fox 14 TV and 98.3 FM radio.
