A donation to United Way will go far

Education, health and income are the building blocks for a new life, the organization asserts. We have to tend to agree — they are basic needs that, if not met, will hamstring individuals’ ability to make it in an increasingly tough world. It doesn’t take a whiz to realize things are getting worse, too.
Some of the goals and needs:
• Cutting the number of students who drop out by half requires improved readiness for kindergarten and closer attention as they move through our educational system.
