Bulldogs have tough foes again

On the schedule in 2007 were eventual BCS national champion LSU, Hawaii and Boise State. And near season’s end, Fresno State almost sneaked into the top 25.
Welcome to this season’s slate and, while toned down just a bit, there’s two teams that have been making the majority of the preseason top 25 lists: Kansas and Fresno State.
The Bulldogs will travel to Jayhawks country for a Sept. 6 meeting and then tangle with California’s version of the Bulldogs at Joe Aillet Stadium on Nov. 1.

Bored? You must be kidding

Luckily for us all, undergrads are not the only ones who can benefit from the activities at Tech. Non-collegiate membership to the intramural center allows access to the facilities and exercise classes, and tickets for concerts and performing arts shows can be obtained from either the Student Union Board, Thomas Assembly Center or the Howard Center Box Office. And, the rich array of continuing education classes offered are fit for another article entirely.

Boys and Girls Club needs our support

The Boys and Girls Club provides an invaluable service to hundreds of area youth each year — a safe, positive place for them to spend the time after school that would otherwise be left to chance and possibly bad influences.
There’s a way we can all be a part of the effort to prop up the organization after Gov. Bobby Jindal’s veto pen struck $30,000 from the state budget that would have flowed into the local organizations accounts, leaving Executive Director Eldonta Osborne and staff looking at ways to keep services robust.

RHS electronics stolen

Milstead said apparently thieves tried to get away with more — printers and other equipment were found in a stairwell after the initial discovery of the thefts on the school’s third floor.
“We just feel personally violated,” Milstead said Friday. “Every principal especially feels that it’s ‘their school,’ and I know people who steal things don’t care, but they’ve hurt the kids, really. Obviously, though, the school board will work with us on this.”

Parish rings in new year

Students across Lincoln Parish headed back to the classroom for a new academic year Friday.
Pre-k and kindergarten students and Ruston High upperclassmen were exempt from this half-day and will head back to school with other students for the first full day on Monday.
Lincoln Parish Schools Director of Instruction, Personnel and Special Programs Mary Null said all appeared to go smoothly Friday.
