Tech's dream hits tough reality

A major overhaul like Enterprise Campus is going to ruffle feathers.
The area that Louisiana Tech hopes to turn into a bustling center where commercial interests and the university’s research and development arm come together to flourish is a large swath of land — 10-15 city blocks, according to the state’s estimates.
As they say, they’re not making any more land. It’s valuable stuff.

Another good year for the Peach Festival

A lot of the burden the organization bears is carried by the ever-expanding group of volunteers who come together and work for the good of the annual festival.
They make the daily grind of ticket sales, concession vending and other responsibilities possible so that the rest of us can enjoy the fun that is a hallmark of life here in Ruston and Lincoln Parish. It’s been a hallmark for more than half a century, and it will likely be one for many years to come.

Rike helping produce big runs

After 96 games, Rike has a .249 batting average with 89 hits in 357 at bats. His 15 home runs are third on the club, plus he’s totaled eight doubles and two triples.
Rike, who has struck out a team-leading 132 times, has a .409 slugging percentage and .343 on base mark and has stolen 12 bases.
He was named earlier this season to the South Atlantic League All-Star team.
Former Tech teammate Dennis Winn is hitting .255 for the Lakewood Blue Claws, who are the current second place team in the Northern Division of the South Atlantic League.

Jindal touches base

Following a statement of support by Lincoln Parish Sheriff Mike Stone, Jindal gave a rundown of recent legislation and his stance pertaining to issues ranging from education to infrastructure.
He noted how a state surplus was recently allocated for the roads.
“I don’t have to tell you we have a $14 billion backlog on road (projects),” he said. “We didn’t have to raise gasoline taxes to help the roads.”
Jindal highlighted two main areas in need of focus for the state’s educational system. The first, he said, has to do with retaining good teachers.
