Support Tech, GSU athletics

Dooley’s ’Dawgs also have a six-game slate of home contests. As outgoing athletic director Jim Oakes said, the team’s slate is one of its best ever. The opportunity to show off the team’s crop of talent in front of an SEC team in prime time on national television before a sell-out crowd is huge for Tech’s name nationally, and we should be thinking about how we can support that effort.
The six home games also represent the most for the school since it joined the Division 1-A ranks in 1989, making season tickets a heck of a deal.

The joys of drinking coffee

On a sticky, oppressive southern summer day, I find it best to curl up on a worn sofa or armchair in a favored subdued coffee house with an iced tea, iced coffee or cold chai latte.
Of course, the available cold coffee options don’t stop there, but I would not want to harangue my readers with an endless list. That’s what the menu at Starbucks is for, after all. And those seemingly endless beverage lists can be quite confusing for the uninitiated or for the traditionalists who drink only the classic cup of black coffee.

Lincoln, nearby parishes overflow with things to do

“Definitely with the gas prices being what they are, it gives an opportunity for people to explore what’s close to home,” said Timothy Bush, director of sales and marketing for the Ruston-Lincoln Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“In Ruston and Lincoln Parish, there are a lot of attractions people can enjoy that won’t cost a lot of money.”
Bush said one of the parish’s best-kept secrets is the Louisiana Military Museum, located at 201 Memorial Drive in Ruston.
“We take people there, and they’re always amazed that Ruston has a place with so much history,” he said.
