Techsters have solid pitching

No wonder Louisiana Tech University is entering its first NCAA playoff appearance in nearly 15 years with a high degree of confidence.
The Techsters (35-27) have one of the deepest and most talented pitching staffs for the College Station Regional, where they will begin play today with a 3:30 p.m. matchup against Auburn (37-20) of the Southeastern Conference.
Led by junior righthander Krissi Oliver, Tech has a combined earned run average of 2.49, 21 complete games and 11 shutouts.

Take time to do a little cleaning

Everyone who is able should get involved with this worthwhile effort. Volunteers will meet at 8 a.m. at city halls across the parish to disperse for trash pickup.
The continued dedication of volunteers and community leaders to the push for a clean parish helps illustrate the gravity of the issue.
Picking up litter isn’t enough.
Mindsets must also change. People in Lincoln Parish have gone too long with the thought that garbage is someone else’s problem.
It is not, nor has it ever been, only the concern of city and parish government. It is a serious cultural issue.

Consider how we seek peace

The Saudi and Jordanian kings, the Egyptian and Palestinian presidents, and the Lebanese and Israeli prime ministers are hardly the two sides of the Arab-Israeli problem. On the contrary, all of these politicians are more or less on the same wavelength, if not on the same side as the U.S.
But how about Syria, Iran, Hizbullah of Lebanon, Hamas of Gaza, other Palestinian factions and representatives of Palestinian refugees? Though on the opposite side, they are, nonetheless, an integral part of the problem.

Events Center edges closer to finalization

However, it is reasonable to suggest people working to pay taxes be shown the plans after their initial conception. In a project aimed at providing the maximum benefit to the maximum number of parish residents and tourists, as much outside input as can be acquired should be obtained.

Library decision expected in June

The architect told the Police Jury that a set of recommendations for plan tweaks submitted last month would improve the overall project.
“The suggestions were well received by members of the library board,” Walpole said. “I think the plan would be stronger, and I don’t see a problem with the comments.”
Some jurors pushed for project approval Tuesday.
Sharyon Mayfield questioned whether a series of public meetings planned for the next few weeks in Dubach, Grambling, Choudrant and Simsboro will delay approval, and said her opinion was that the project should move forward now.

Techsters: A confident feeling

At the time, FSU was ranked No. 12 in the nation.
While Tech would drop the next two outings to the Bulldogs, that first game decision proved invaluable in terms of confidence-building for the remainder of the season.
“It told us that we had the ability and potential to beat any team, no matter who they were,” recalled junior pitcher Krissi Oliver. “Although we had lost earlier to Hawaii twice, they were also nationally ranked at the time and we gave them good games. And later, we lost a close game (8-7) to Nevada when we went out there and they were ranked in the top 25.”
