Hearing loss is measureable

• Difficulty understanding speech, not so much hearing speech. This is a very common symptom of high frequency hearing loss. Women and children’s voices may be particularly difficult to understand. If you add in some background noise, speech discrimination may become nearly impossible. Poor speech discrimination is a reliable sign of significant hearing loss.
• Listening to the TV or radio at levels that others find too loud. To help increase speech intelligibility, people with hearing loss will turn up the volume so that they can understand more.

Lives Lost to Alcohol

“These silhouettes represent real lives that have been tragically lost — college students, high school students, children, parents, brothers, sisters, sorority and fraternity members and friends,” said Addie Smith, coordinator of the North Central Alliance Partners in Prevention, one of the groups collaborating on the project. “The silhouettes could represent a pedestrian hit by a drunk driver, someone riding in a vehicle with someone drunk or the driver themselves. The goal of this project is to prevent these types of crashes and to serve as a reminder of the loved ones we’ve all lost.”
