Sparta leaders tour wastewater

The West Monroe plant produces cardboard packaging for food and drink and uses 10 million gallons of water a day from the Sparta, as well as 10 million gallons a day from the Ouachita River. Sixteen parishes in north Louisiana depend either entirely or partially on the Sparta aquifer for their drinking water. Water levels in the Sparta have been dropping for years because the amount of water being taken from the aquifer exceeds its sustainable level by about 18 million gallons per day.

‘T-Day’ has arrived for ’Dogs

Senior linebacker Harris concurred, saying that “it’s a steak all the way. We had better win.”
So forget any sparkling trophy to be rewarded to Saturday’s victorious team.
A nice, big steak will do just fine.
And for head coach Derek Dooley and his assistants, so will a solid, all-around performance by both teams bode well for making the gap between spring drills and fall training camp more bearable.

Parents must be vigilant

There are the inevitable questions: “why,” “how,” “when,” “how often” and “could we have caught it sooner?”
The answers to all of those questions will likely never be made public because they are almost always never clear.
Let this much be made crystal clear: teachers cannot and will not be allowed to cross the line of appropriate decorum with the future of our communities in the palms of their hands.

The human element of Iraq

I am talking in particular about the refugees and the internally displaced. These are the forgotten, but living, victims of the absurd violence in Iraq. All parties in the conflict are equally represented among the refugees, for they are non-combatants and, regardless of their religious or ethnic affiliation, were caught in the cross-fire and thus had to abandon everything and leave.

Ruston, Research Park linked

The Air Force expects to draw the workforce for its cyber endeavors in Bossier City from an area encompassing Tyler, Texas, in the west and Monroe in the east, and as far south as Alexandria and north into mid-Arkansas, he said.
“And what’s the only research university in that map?” he said Wednesday to an ERA Lincoln Realty forum at Tech’s Lomax Hall. The implied answer was Tech.
