Grambling mayor, council clash

Ed Jones, mayor pro tempore, cited the Lawrason Act guidelines for Louisiana municipal governments and called the meeting to order without councilman Clarence Kennedy, who was absent.
Councilman Alvin Bradley said the meeting had been called to address rumors that the town clerk, Pamela Stringfellow, had been fired, as well as the 2007 audit, town bookkeeping and other personnel matters. “We came out flat and played poorly,” summed up centerfielder Adam Cobb. “It was tough. We had a lack of focus and just didn’t play well. But we’ve got to make something out of this and come back and play much better.”
The ‘Dogs won’t have to wait long.
They’re back on the Love turf this weekend for a three-game series against the University of Tennessee-Martin.

Class teaches defense tactics

Gallagher, a supervisor at Green Oaks Detention Center, said participants will be taught safety tactics that will allow them to get away and escape their attacker.
“Free in five (seconds) is the get it done quick mentality,” he said. “Nobody’s going to be able to fight with somebody, but they will get away.”
Many of the exercises will teach techniques such as submission holds, a palm strike and other benign moves. One in particular is clapping someone’s ears, a technique anyone can do that doesn’t require a lot of pressure.
