Hey kids, the circus is coming

“I can’t wait to go to the circus.”
In addition to this child care facility, Skeeter delighted young audiences with her unique style of clowning and comedy at the First Baptist Church Preschool and Child Care Center in Simsboro and at Lincoln Headstart and South Parkway Child Care Center in Ruston.
“This is going to be a fantastic experience, and I encourage everyone to come out with their family and friends to enjoy a great show,” said Barbara McIntyre, president of the Greater Grambling Chamber of Commerce, sponsor of the circus.

Christians celebrate hope

Today, during the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services, Witt will preach from Matthew 27:52-53 about the resurrection with a sermon titled “When the Saints Go Marching In.”
“The scripture focuses on the Old Testament saints, who came forth from the grave after the resurrection of Jesus, that were marching into the kingdom of God,” Witt said. “The message I’m driving home is through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, the price was paid for the sins of the world, and now salvation is a free gift to anyone who believes and follows Jesus.”

ULS search key for local universities

So, it is with enthusiasm that we look forward to this week, when the search committee charged with the task of replacing her has its first of many meetings on the opening.
The president of the ULS must be knowledgeable of the unique challenges that face university students today and the workings of the state higher education system, as well as how to best maneuver the ULS for future improvement. With the growth of two-year colleges and workforce training programs, the role and mission of four-year institutions is evolving, and we need a forward-thinking leader to roll with that change.

Five years later, heroes remembered

Here we are, 4,000 American troop deaths later. Just like with my life, much has changed about the war, and much has stayed the same.
There’s been so much talk through the years about what’s right and wrong about the war in Iraq. Every politician and talking head on TV puts a different spin on it, and undoubtedly Iraq will prove to be a deciding issue in this year’s presidential election.

GSU hosts Jags in SWAC series

While the season is still early, the series could go a long ways in determining who rules the league’s Western Division this season.
“It’s always big when Grambling and Southern play each other,” said second-year head coach Barrett Rey of Grambling State. “It’s always a very competitive series that both teams enjoy being a part of and I know it’s big when it comes to deciding who might win the division.
“We just need to go out and be focused and ready to play.”

Help group keep parish shining

But, it wouldn’t be a chronic issue if one clean-up would solve all of our woes.
Keep Lincoln Parish Beautiful knows that’s not a reality. The group is moving ahead with educational programs in schools, lobbying for stronger law enforcement intervention and efforts to spread the word of how litter affects our daily lives.
The national group reports that its affiliates typically deliver $12 in value for every greenback invested by local government, and we believe Keep Lincoln Parish Beautiful can mirror that trend if results like those from the March 15 clean-up become commonplace.
