Tech’s Love Field getting new looks

New and larger press box ... well, put a check mark by that in the next several months.
The press box that was originally constructed at Louisiana Tech University’s J.C. Love Field was recently dismantled to make way for a newer, much larger and better equipped area for members of the fourth estate and other game officials.
It’s one more phase of an ongoing “facelifting” for one of the most popular playing arenas in college baseball, one that will play host to the 2008 Western Athletic Conference tournament in late May.

District should push creative outlet

At one time, Ruston High School offered a creative writing class, for example. This is the kind of outlet that is absolutely necessary for those who aren’t set to be engineers, scientists or doctors. And even for the technically-minded student, creative writing is the basis for an entire area of our culture — from plays, novels and poetry to journalism.
Superintendent Danny Bell said RHS at one time had a creative writing program, but it seems to have fallen by the wayside as other priorities took over.

Let’s figure this one out

Latina Williams will never tell us why she entered a classroom and gunned down two students before turning the weapon on herself. We will likely never understand.
The latest act was at Northern Illinois University. This time it seemed to be carried out, to steal a phrase from a fellow, with a casual malice. It’s baffling. What is driving these people?

Corre Stegall, vice president for University Advancement at Tech, said Marbury made great feats in her life.
“Virginia Marbury was an extraordinary woman, one who was well ahead of her time as a highly successful businesswoman in an era when few women pursued professional careers, combining career and family,” she said.
