Dean’s big year continues

No word yet on whether or not Dean has been checking out some old tapes of, say, Joe Montana, to grab a tip or two on making the perfect candy toss.
“It will be fun and I’m honored to be doing this,” said Dean, one of only 247 members in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which honored him and five other legends of the sport in Canton, Ohio this summer.
“I am grateful that they chose me to be the grand marshal. It means so much, having grown up here and played in high school and college locally.”

GSUPD hire is key piece of safety puzzle

Chambers has experience with the toughest of the tough departments in the nation. A former New York City Department of Investigations officer, he has also served in positions with North Carolina A&T University and the Burlington, N.C. police department. He’s been a patrol officer, narcotics investigator, detective, special operations officer, community policing officer and school resource officer. Look at him as a Swiss army knife among police officers.

Shades of the holiday season

Some varieties, like “Visions of Grandeur” poinsettias with a creamy white and pink coloration, were already spoken for.
“It’s beautiful,” said horticultural attendant Ashley Hall of the breed, which is a new one for the year. She also pointed out a “Holly Point” variety with a green and white color pattern that she said is one that stands out for her.
That’s not to say the sale is limited to just poinsettias, with winter rose varieties like “Red Marble” and “Peppermint Twist,” and chrysanthemums also available for purchase, just to name a few.
