Grambling to hire accountant

The council approved a motion to hire a full-time accountant/business manager to handle day-to-day financial affairs for the city.
“Hopefully this will help bring better accountability with our financial records and get us back on the right track,” Andrus said. “I’m looking forward to this new employee helping us avoid any of those problems in the future.”
City councilman and finance committee member Roosevelt Bryant was pleased to see the hire he’s been requesting for months finally on the table.

’Dogs seek end to road woes

Not only will Tech deal with playing in another venue located over 2,000 miles from Ruston, it will have to do so against one of the best teams in the Western Athletic Conference.
“San Jose State and Boise State have started to separate themselves from the rest of the league,” said Tech coach Derek Dooley. “They’re playing very well and on both sides of the football. They’ve got as good a defensive team as anybody in our conference and that’s where they’re really hanging their hat this season.

Support for tax shows concern

Lincoln Parish Fire District No. 1 has repeatedly urged the public support. Chief Dennis Ford failed to bring a property tax before voters last year, opting for a different approach to raise funds he says are necessary for the safety of both firefighters and residents this year. It will apply only outside of Ruston, Choudrant and Grambling.
First, it is noteworthy the tax passed in a tax-shy parish in a decidedly sour economic climate nationwide.
Second, it is encouraging to see these results because the parish fire department has seen stronger days.

Cedar Town comes early

“The Cedar Town Holiday Market supports programs from professional development to facility enhancement at the school,” said Linda Steed, development director at Cedar Creek. “(Preparing the market) is quite a lengthy process. (The Parents’ Club) has been working since last spring with preparations.”
Shelly Fuqua, market co-chair, said 40 vendors will be set up in the Civic Center, including The Fashion of Ruston, Doodlebugs, Dixie Chic Designs (custom stationery) Lauren Roebuck Designs (floral arrangements), The Children’s Shop and Lewis and Co.
