Notices put government on display

This week is National Newspaper Week, a celebration showcasing the impact of newspapers on our everyday lives.
This year, Oct. 5-11 is dedicated to newspapers in America and how they serve readers. The focus of the celebration this year is on something found in newspapers that isn’t splashed across the front page, but is valuable to readers.
“Public notices — Good government on display” is the theme of this year’s National Newspaper Week.

Favorite son urged to serve

And the admiration and love for Gallot was clearly evident in the overflow crowd at Grambling State University’s Black and Gold room. Also evident was the crowd’s desire to see Gallot continue his political career in the future, with both Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu and longtime friend Ray Higgins publicly stating that they feel the Grambling native could be an even bigger player for Louisiana in the future.

Tech, GSU have road tests

Tech will go from having played against a WAC opponent ranked in the nation’s Top 25 to one who just knocked off a Top 25 listed club.
In the shocker of the season so far, Hawaii (2-3, 1-1) stunned then-No. 22 ranked and preseason league favorite Fresno State 32-29 in overtime. And in Fresno, no less. A 33-yard field goal by placekicker Dan Kelly gave the Warriors the unexpected win against a Bulldogs’ squad that was favored by 20 points.

Police seek suspect in armed robbery

A black male, wearing dark clothing entered the Subway restaurant, produced a handgun and demanded money, according to police. The suspect then forced all of the employees into the cooler in the back of the store. He fled the restaurant with an undetermined amount of cash, and his direction of travel is unknown.
The suspect was described as a black male, approx. 5’10” tall wearing dark clothing.
