Icy roads bring vehicle pileup

“At 7:49 a.m. is when the call came in from the woman who said she hit a pedestrian,” Brazzel said.
After hitting the pedestrian, Brazzel said the driver slid to a stop. Following this, he said a Lincoln Parish school bus, which was behind the SUV, also stopped, resulting in a succession of cars rear-ending each other.
“The car behind the bus slid to a stop and bumped the bus in the rear,” he said. “Then another car hit the car which bumped the bus in the rear.”
The RFD responded with a command unit to assist on the scene, and Brazzel said the extent of injuries was not yet known.

’Dogs scrap before losing 71-61

The ‘Dogs (3-13, 0-4) fought back from an early 26-6 lead to go on a 17-1 run during a five-and-a-half-minute span of the first half to move within one (29-28) before eventually losing 71-61 to Utah State (14-5, 4-0), which remained untarnished against league opponents,
Tech could have mailed this in after those early minutes and then again in the first nine minutes of the second half when the Aggies went up by 20 points (55-35).

March for Babies funds vital research

We can do more than sympathize and pray for these babies, though. The March of Dimes is committed to improving the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
The nonprofit organization works to achieve this mission through research, awareness and education. Prematurity is the leading cause of death for newborns in the United States. Those who survive often have lifelong health problems.

Learning to live to the fullest

They should read John Eldredge’s book, Wild at Heart. In it he speaks of the way that God made men and wired their hearts. He states that men desire to live a life of adventure and risk; to be the warrior, the hero and to rescue the beautiful girl. But most especially he says men desire to live their life based to a degree on instinct or gut reaction or, put another way, to follow their heart. He speaks of living your life with meaning, passion, adventure, truth and beauty. Most of the items on the “bucket list” in the movie were all about those very things.

Overseas scams hit home

Harris said the scam occurs when the scam artist buys merchandise using stolen credit card numbers and ships it to the unsuspecting victims, who are used to re-ship the products overseas.
Harris said these scams are becoming more common and have now surfaced in the local community.
“They’re used in any of the online dating sites to develop relationships with people in the United Sates as a go-between to get stolen goods in the United States,” he said. “I don’t think either of the victims realized they were involved in something illegal when they contacted us.”

’Dogs host WAC leading Aggies

Carroll is the leading scorer in the Western Athletic Conference, the only one who has touched the coveted 20.0-point plateau for average, and the Aggies (13-3, 4-0) are undefeated and pacing the league after four games.
And, oh, they’ve also won their last nine games.
That’s who the Bulldogs (3-13, 0-4) will have to deal with in tonight’s 7 p.m. meeting at the Thomas Assembly Center.

Project ACHIEVE is commendable

We’ve also given local school principals a place on our editorial page every other Sunday for them to share their goals and achievements and encourage community and parental involvement.
Effective community partnerships are a critical component of the Lincoln Parish School System’s plan for success. Our teachers and administrators are working their hardest to push students to do their best and reward them when they do. But sometimes, having that extra help from a community volunteer is what makes the difference.
