RHS mission: Bouncing back

It not only marked Ruston’s first loss of the overall and District 1-5A campaign, but also forced a complete drop out of the Louisiana Sports Writers Association’s Class 5-A top 10 poll.
Humbling it was for the Bearcats and Laird hopes the defeat got a message across to his players.
“I think we learned a lesson,” Laird said. “Our players are hurt and embarrassed over what happened and they’re ready to play.”
Now, he’s also hoping it can lead straight to a win at James Stadium on Friday night when league opponent Shreveport Huntington High comes in for a 7 p.m. meeting.

Bolstering parks the right move

Even adult and contracted programming is up across the board.
In response, RPAR is taking steps to bring area parks up to standard, and that is also a positive step.
The parks and recreation facilities need the upkeep because we as a community are using them — and using them to the fullest.
Woodland, Duncan, Ward 5, Cook, and Greenwood Park are all set for upgrades and maintenance work this year and in the next two or three. So is the municipal pool and the J.C. Love athletics complex.

Locals, students headed to Jena

Today, members of the local community are making final preparations for the rally. Despite the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeal’s decision to overturn Bell’s felony conviction of aggravated second-degree battery, the rally will continue.
W.D. Walker, president of the Lincoln Parish branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, said the original intent for the rally was to try to get charges dropped for Bell. Walker was shocked by the charges and shocked by the incident overall.
