Keagle kicking for big numbers

Constitution must be taught to all

The Constitution, 220 years old this week, is lost if we do not take it upon ourselves to pass down its importance to the next generation. Schools should highlight both the document’s birthday and the week meant to celebrate it as designated by the President.
Today, every American shares in the light constructed by those who founded our country, and this is a way to give due importance to a topic that is underappreciated by many students.
Many don’t even realize there is a Constitution Day or Constitution Week.

'Road Home' needs funding

Many affected by Hurricane Rita have told me they sometimes feel forgotten. On the eve of this second anniversary of Rita, I say to the strong-spirited people of this region, Louisiana has not forgotten you, and neither have I.
So far more than $300 million in actual construction funds have been spent on the ground in the parishes most devastated by Rita, with hundreds of millions of investment on the way.
The Louisiana Recovery Authority just approved $16 million for long-term recovery projects in Cameron, Calcasieu and Vermilion parishes.

Dubach eyes grant, fuel costs

The town is also looking into uses for a 2008-09 LCDB grant. Although council member Vallie Carrico said she had received complaints that the roads inside the town limits were in poor condition, Rogers said the grant money could not be used to improve them.
“The grant could not be used for any neighborhood not low income” since it is designed to aid those who meet that criteria, Rogers said, adding that capital outlay funds could perhaps be sought to improve the roads.
