Landrieu visits Lincoln

“You’ve shown that our universities can have a real impact on new and emerging technology in the defense industry,” Landrieu said.
Landrieu said — as she did at each stop during the day — that Barksdale Air Force Base in Shreveport stands a good chance of being named the home of the U.S. military’s new Cyberspace Command.
“We need to be able to produce the scientists to support this command,” Landrieu said.

Jerry Lewis, chief public education officer for the Ruston Fire Department, said everyone can have a safe holiday by keeping out of the line of fire, storing fireworks in a safe place and being prepared if an accident should occur.
“One of the biggest problems we have with kids is, of course, burn accidents,” Lewis said.
“The kids should always be assisted by an adult or a responsible person anytime they are handling fireworks.”

Ex-RHS stars on NSU elite team

Initially, there was an estimated 250 players nominated by a blue-ribbon panel that was comprised of former players, coaches and past and present administrators.
“The selection process has generated a great deal of interest around the state and from NSU supporters around the country,” said Greg Burke, director of athletics at the university.

Jindal visits Dubach, Simsboro

In the area of job and economic development, Jindal said Louisiana was ranked 50th in the nation by Forbes. He suggested that cutting taxes on utilities, debt and new equipment as well as training more skilled workers, could be keys to drawing more businesses to Louisiana.
“In Louisiana, only 20 percent of students go to technical schools,” Jindal said. “More needs to be done for those students who are not going on to college.”
