Tech’s eyes on safety

A project currently out for bid and aimed for completion before Tech’s hallowed halls open for the fall quarter will rework the security camera system that allows university police to remain vigilent and aware.

I'm in Harry Heaven

People would open their wallets for some of the silliest of items, everything from Harry Potter snow globes to tiny pouches of Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans with flavors like grass and earwax.
After three years of seeing this stuff fly off the shelves, I broke down and bought a paperback copy of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. It took me two, maybe three days to get through and I wanted more.

Vitter apologizes for actions

Vitter’s spokesman, Joel Digrado, confirmed the statement Monday evening in an e-mail to The Associated Press.
It said his telephone number was on old phone records of Pamela Martin and Associates before he ran for the Senate.

“Traditionally, Louisiana Tech University has always done a good job of conducting summer camps for various sports,” noted the newsletter.
“This summer’s camps are particularly rated high because of the input by the coaching staffs for baseball, football, basketball and softball.”

Ruston not really so small

A year ago, I would have described myself as the second type of person unfortunately stuck in the life holding pattern of the first.
You might be thinking, if you caught my first column, “This girl is from Pineville; she doesn’t know anything about the city.”
You would be correct, except for those three months I managed to escape the 318 area code (for the longest time yet) and go to London for a study abroad program.

Legislators look at health, roads

In the area of healthcare, Downs said legislators were able to fully fund the state’s rural hospitals and increase the number of waiver slots by about 3,000 so that more elderly and disabled residents could receive care at home or in a community setting as opposed to an institution.
Gallot said the income limits were also raised for the LaChip program — which provides children with health insurance at no cost — to make it available to more working parents.
