It’s ‘T-Day’ for Bulldogs

The 1 p.m. game which will feature a wide variety of pre-game and post-game activities for fans of all ages will officially mark the conclusion of the first-ever spring workouts directed by head coach Derek Dooley.
The players are definitely ready for this spring-ending test, if not for nothing else the chance to take some good-natured jabs at their teammates who might be on the losing end.

Families of autistic youth not alone

A support group for families or friends has just started and is picking up steam. Its first meeting was held Thursday, and support continues to grow for this worthy cause.
Not only do parents get to exchange stories about their autistic children and learn from others’ experiences, but the siblings also get to interact and realize they are not alone. Plus, plans are being made to have a day out for the autistic children, the siblings and the parents.
Cole added she hopes parents who even suspect their child might have autism will come to the group meeting.

Train travel still an option

I had the opportunity to experience this old transportation favorite when I went on a Amtrak trip to Wisconsin over Thanksgiving break. The trip was an over-nighter from Longview, Texas, to Chicago, which allowed me the full train experience.
After my numerous plane flights in the past year, I would have to say it cannot compare to the luxurious comfort of train travel. The train seats are spacious with two foot rests per seat, the aisles are not cramped and the view is not restricted by a two feet by one foot oval window.

Gallot to reintroduce gun bill

While there is a general ban on firearms and other dangerous weapons on school property, Gallot said it does not apply to a student who possesses a firearm in a dorm room or while going to or from a vehicle.
“After this was brought to my attention, I filed House Bill 143 of the 2003 regular session,” he said.
Gallot said opponents of his bill — which would outlaw all personal weapons on campus — successfully argued that the bill was an infringement on the Second Amendment right to bear arms.
“I was unable to secure enough votes to get the bill out of committee,” Gallot said.
