Efforts to save Sparta stay afloat

“Representatives from different police juries asked if Trailblazer could get involved in Sparta conservation efforts. The juries contributed to the Trailblazer Sparta Fund and formed a working team to develop proposals for acquiring funding.”
Out of that partnership was born the “SOS” — Save Our Sparta — program, Simmons said.
“We created 2,000 SOS kits to educate the public about the necessity to conserve the Sparta Aquifer,” Simmons said.

Techsters sloppy, but win

At times, you would have thought San Jose State (3-22, 2-9) was still on the heels of Boise State for first place in the Western Athletic Conference instead of Tech.
“The way we shot tonight in the first half and for much of the game, we were very fortunate to win this game,” sighed head coach Chris Long. “It was like, in the first half and for the start of the second half, there was a lid on the basket.
“It got to where I was trying to pull out anything and see if it worked. Finally, we found a couple of things that worked.”

Simsboro sets example

Mayor Willie Hendricks has emphasized the need for cooperation among all village residents in both efforts which will have a far reaching impact on the future of the village.
“If we wait for someone else to take on a daily effort to make our community as attractive as possible there is a good chance that things will simply not get done at all,” Hendricks said. “We have got to all participate in these projects if we want to attract more residents and more economic development — and both of those are very important for the best future possible for our village.”

Is Mr. Mays really 90?

But when I went to wish Mr. Mays a happy 90th birthday I could not help but recall all those years when the Storey family and the Mays family lived next door.
It was the perfect arrangement. They had three children — boy then girl then boy. And they came right after the three children in our family — also boy then girl then boy. We each had instant playmates next door.

City’s resolutions for 2007 in progress

The RPD also plans to continue its wellness program initiated last year for the SWAT team and the leadership development courses for the youth of the community.
Ruston Parks and Recreation personnel have also made plans for the new year. They plan to continue renovations and upgrades to the facilities, initiate a foliage program and a volunteer program for the parks, and complete the Ward 5 Park construction.
