Voters head to polls this weekend

Amidst all of the holiday shopping, school events and family plans, please don’t forget to vote.
Saturday’s ballot holds several important elections, including run-offs for police jury seats in districts 1, 3 and 11. Other positions to be determined by Lincoln Parish voters are the district 5 seat on the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education and Louisiana’s attorney general.
Choosing our representatives on both the state and local levels is always important, but especially this year as our state works to overhaul its image.

Look out for holiday crime

The holidays bring a sense of warmth along with some added stress.
Many people feel the need to get fast money during the holidays to make their Christmas brighter, while others just see this season as an opportunity to catch stores’ register boxes with some extra cash.
Whatever the reason, nothing justifies resorting to crime or any other illegal activities, but a small crime wave seems to ride along with the holidays.
Security cameras are not listed in job descriptions as perks and worrying about your life is not something people usually consider when applying for a job.

School board OKs health plan changes

The board pays about 80 percent of members’ premiums, and Null said the third party administrator has advised that on self-insured programs the employees should be paying at least 25 percent, as opposed to the current 20 percent school board employees pay.
“With the way things are looking, we might have to pass on insurance premiums to the employees in the future,” she said.
School Board Business Manager George Murphy said continuing increases are due to greater utilization of the insurance and increasing fees from doctors and hospitals.
