First-time iLEAP exam results are in

According to a release from the Louisiana Department of Education, iLEAP scores present a good indication of how well a child will perform on the LEAP exam, taken in the fourth and eighth grades.
Lincoln Parish Supervisor of Testing, Evaluation and Curriculum Eric Carter said the iLEAP is part norm-referenced and part criterion-referenced.
“Certain test questions are classified as norm-referenced, some are linked to GLE’s and some get counted for both,” Carter said.
“A child could score very well on one part and then poorly on the other.”

Bearcats: another tough Quad-A foe

The Lions (1-0) will come into James Stadium for Friday’s 7 p.m. meeting as the No. 4 listed squad after having turned back No. 6 Double-A ranked Sterlington 28-13.
And check the first weekly Ken Ramsey.com power ratings for all Louisiana High School Athletic Association members and you’ll find Ouachita No. 2 (21.00) and Neville No. 3 (20.00) for their classification.
For sure, it’s back-to-back Friday nights of tough, athletic opponents for the Bearcats.

LTCA steps outside Tech, community

Among the shows scheduled for the LTCA’s 2006-07 season are the following:
• State Street Ballet of Santa Barbara’s production of “Carmen,” a ballet by Artistic Director Rodney Gustafson;
• Inca Son offering a taste of the traditional music and dance of the Andean Culture;
• Anonymous 4 with special guests Darol Anger and Scott Nygaard presenting “Long Time Traveling,” which features lyric folk songs, religious ballads and gospel hymns;
• The Acting Company’s production of “Jane Eyre,” an adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s story; and

Dreams flow from trash bins

Trailblazer Resource Conservation and Development, which serves an eight-parish area, is encouraging people to act before they thoughtlessly toss aside valuable resources by recycling newspaper, office paper, cardboard, aluminum cans, phonebooks, ink jet and laser printer cartridges and cell phones.
Recycling means less water is required to make paper, which ultimately affects Sparta Aquifer conservation.
