Go on, spread your wings a little

I really love to be up in the air and look around at all the itsy-bitty houses below.
I’m sure people who have flown hundreds or even dozens of times do not share my enthusiasm, but it’s something about seeing the world at a different angle that excites me.
The flight on the Cessna 172 to Farmerville and back was fun, and I was ecstatic to pass over my own house and take a quick picture.
However, also on the flight, I learned more about flying aircraft in general and about EEA and its upcoming Fly-In.

DEA meth workshop on tap at Tech’s TAC

The free event is open to law enforcement officials, social workers, educators and anyone else who is interested in the issue.
Underage drinking was also a topic at the meeting.
Lincoln Parish Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Cpt. Wes Harris said in the next few weeks, deputies would be visiting places in the parish licensed to sell alcohol to pass out brochures about the law as it pertains to underage alcohol sales.
Additionally, he said the battle against underage drinking would be broadened to include local churches.

Police out in force this weekend

“With this being the last extended weekend of the summer, many people are making plans to celebrate — going to parties and going to the lake, getting together with friends to enjoy the weekend. Unfortunately, many of the partygoers get intoxicated and get behind the wheel.”
Hawkins said that the long weekend would also see increased travel.
“Due to the extended weekend and it being the weekend before Louisiana Tech is back in, there will be an increase in the number of motorists in and around Lincoln Parish,” he said.

Jackson, Tech: all eyes on Huskers

“I’ve played against Florida, I’ve played against Miami, I’ve played against Tennessee and I’ve played against Auburn,” Jackson says matter-of-factly. “So, honestly, Nebraska is another big team I’ll be playing against while I’m at Tech.”
That certainly doesn’t mean he doesn’t respect them.
The Bulldogs’ starting middle linebacker does.

Tech student represents school well

As we reach the end of this television series, Alice is one of two remaining finalists.
Next week (Sunday at 8 p.m.) they will air a final challenge. At the end of the show, phone lines will be open for America to vote for the winner. The winner gets to host his/her own series on HGTV.
This is a great opportunity for Compton-Fakier.
It also puts our university and School of Architecture in a very good light.
We are proud of what she had done on the show. She has represented Tech incredibly well.

An intriguing visit with Miss Ruth

I wanted to know the real Miss Ruth and the real life she had lived, and she did not hesitate to tell me.
It was a wonderful story of love of devotion.
If you could imagine asking a 100 year-old-person for his or her favorite time of life, I would certainly not expect to have the reply be now, but that was her quick response. And what about dying? The same thing.
She has no fear of the end of her life.
She is not in any hurry for that to happen, but if that is God’s will then she will face His will.

Louisiana Tech University has received recognition for its contributions to Louisiana

“We are responsive to the environment around us, which helps us grow.”
The other state schools on the list were Louisiana State University-Baton Rouge at 181st and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette at 242nd.
The research was based on criteria following the theme of, “What are reasonable indicators of how much a school is benefiting the country?” The schools were judged on:
• How well the university performed as an engine of social mobility, i.e., helping the poor to get rich rather than the rich to get very rich;
