Tech alumni event attracts 1,000

Vice President of University Advancement Corre Stegall said this annual event has taken place since as far back as she can remember.
“Historically, the Happening started out as a group of people very interested in the football program. They would get the football coach, go out and eat dinner and hear about the upcoming season,” she said.

Open heart to students

For international exchange students, this is their reality. What can make these young people adjust more quickly and completely to a new way of life is having a host family.

But while he might have been appreciative of the recognition, the Oak Grove native isn’t putting much stock in such preseason hype.
“When you come down to it, all that matters is how many games you win and how you do on the field,” Newman said. “It’s nice and all, but I am not into that stuff, the statistics or anything. I just want to do whatever I can to make sure we can be successful on the field, that we can win a bunch of games. That’s the key to it all.”
Newman will, indeed, play a huge role in the Bulldogs’ hopes for success this season.

Council passes budget amendments

“We had to spend a great amount on overtime,” said Chief James Tornabene. “This amount will cover us for the rest of the year.”
Alderman Elmore Mayfield was not overjoyed by the decision.
“That’s too much,” Mayfield said. “That’s $37,000 going out on overtime alone.”
Tornabene said another large sum of the money was needed for new equipment.
