Sparta Commission discusses funding

“I will see what I can do, but they’re very tight on funds,” Sam Little, representing Morehouse Parish, said.
Ruston and the Lincoln Parish Police Jury each budget $5,000 each year to go to the Sparta Commission, Jury Administrator Dennis Woodward said. In the past, he said that has funded a saltwater intrusion project study by the USGS.
During a presentation to the commission, Terry Emory, with the city of West Monroe, said the city’s pilot program to use wastewater to supply Graphics Packaging is on track.

Cautiousness should never be forgotten

Most of the crimes reported were a result of a person not taking simple precautions, for example leaving vehicles unlocked or valuables in the car.
It is very important that people correct this lackadaisical approach to safety.
Vehicles should be locked, even in a driveway and valuables should be removed or placed out of plain sight.
Also, leaving a car window down could allow a thief to gain access into the vehicle.

What is this man talking about?

Champion gets his chance

“I know it’s against a great Nebraska team that had a good season last year and is being ranked in the top 25 of the preseason polls, but anybody who is a competitor wants to play against the best and that’s the way I am.

Temporary buildings ruled unsafe

Bell said the problems noted by the deputy fire marshal, Lloyd Peters, did not seem to him to warrant closing the temporary buildings.
“I’m learning a lot about code as we go along, but I really don’t understand some of their reasoning,” Bell said.
Gravel was placed at the foot of steps leading to temporary buildings and at the doorway leading from the rear of the main school building to the school grounds.
Bell said the gravel was placed to keep students from tracking in mud to their classrooms and to take better care of the students’ shoes.
