Television keeps us in the box

Usually, I refrain from watching more than five hours of television per week. However, as I’ve developed more sinus pain and other allergy symptoms over the last week, programs on television have become more enticing. Exercising in my sick-feeling state seems out of the question, and I prefer not to socialize with others when I feel bad, since I’m more likely to be rude.

Domestic violence affects all

D.A.R.T. does a good job of staying in the public eye and constantly spreading awareness of domestic abuse and the resources available to victims.
In addition, they constantly seek to better equip their advocates with the most important and up-to-date information possible while seeking to form a partnership with community leaders to facilitate victim service.
Their community response team seminar held last week reflected that open attitude with a theme of “Collaboration is the Key.”

Tech special teams have high rating

The ‘Dogs are No. 3 in back of Fresno State and Boise State.
Place the spotlight for much of the lofty rating with the kicking department.
Returning with No. 1 roles are placekicker Danny Horwedel and punter Chris Keagle.
A second team All-WAC member in 2005, Horwedel goes into his junior season as one of the top ranked players at his position in the mid-major circles.
The Oak Ridge, Tenn., native was 18-of-26 in field goals and was the Bulldogs’ leader for points scored with 88 as a sophomore.

Jurors to pay for trips in advance

Parish Administrator Dennis Woodward said “unofficial” policy called for his office to pay registration fees and make hotel reservations in advance. But if a juror decides later not to attend the event, Woodward said the Jury is left holding the bag.
Juror Annie Brown told the committee that she had “never paid for anything before I went.”
“And that’s the problem,” Backus said. “We don’t have a policy in place to get the money back from those who are no-shows.”
Woodward told the committee members the situation described by Backus occurs several times a year.
