School Jamboree plans underway

“This is an event that is held every year during the first week of August. We give school supplies to kids, and we are going to raffle off four computers for kids and probably two laptops,” Tellis-Cooper said. “This is a chance for families to come out to Woodland Park, across from the old fairgrounds, and spend time together.”
Tellis-Cooper said currently they are looking for sponsors for a basketball tournament.

‘Ham’, Jones: Bulldogs’ hit men

Jones was the leading hitter with a .357 average and also had No. 1 rankings in four other major offensive categories, while Hamilton ended up with the second best mark at .351 and featured leaderships in a trio of divisions.
Overall, the 33-game winning Bulldogs had seven regular players to bat .300 or better, numbers that helped the club finish with an overall mark of .311 that was the second best (behind champion Fresno State) of any WAC member.

Student’s donation ray of hope

Architecture major Christal Beach will cut her hair in Alexandria on July 13, the day the campaign is urging all of their hometown ambassadors to donate their hair and the day that actress Diane Lane will cut her own hair for the charity on television’s The Today Show.
Pantene Beautiful Lengths is encouraging women and men to grow, cut and donate their healthy hair to make wigs for women who have lost their hair due to cancer treatment.
Two of Beach’s grandparents were affected by cancer. She said she was participating in the campaign to make patients feel better about themselves.

Are we fair-weather fans?

As they continued to win game after game, more and more people became Red Sox fans, and after they won the World Series, there were new fans all across the United States.
However, the hard-core fans would always ask this one question: “Were you a fan before our loveable losers won the World Series, or are you a fair-weather fan who only jumped on board after Johnny Damon, David Ortiz Manny Ramirez and Curt Schilling actually gave you something to cheer about?”
Sometimes, I feel that’s how the residents of the United States act toward our country — we’re fair-weather fans.
