Parish poised for big growth

Also, as mentioned earlier, the movie theater should bring in more restaurants, which in turn should draw more visitors from the surrounding area to Ruston, which in turn should bring in more businesses to provide additional shopping opportunities for those same visitors. In other words, Ruston and Lincoln Parish are poised to enter a phase of growth — both economically and in population.

Ruston offers many options

But back to what I mentioned in the first paragraph: one of my judging mates was Dr. B.J. Flores, a local obstetrician. Although we had never officially met before Thursday's contest, it seemed as if Flores (he prefers to be called B.J.) and I had known each other for years. We discussed food and he told me where I could find the best sushi in the area. He even said I could drop his name and possibly get a larger portion. Flores noticed my Derek Jeter wristwatch and mentioned that his mother was a huge New York Yankee fan.

Tech, Grambling right on track

Morgan was No. 1 in the men’s discus at 188-7 and Jackson led the way in the 110-meter hurdles at 13.77, while clocked the top time in the 400-meter intermediate hurdles at 57.06 and Allen tossed the shot 51-4 1/2 as the women’s pacesetters.
Schuler tied with Louisiana-Lafayette’s Justin Lemaire for the best time in a meet’s longest run, clicking off a 32:57.97 over the 10,000 meters.
Representing Grambling were Kory Cook in the men’s 200-meter dash at 20.76, Kerone Fairweather in the men’s 800-meter run at 1:52.32 and the men’s 4-by-100 meter relay squad with a top time of 40.54.

2006 Peach Fest season now open

The ceremony gave Napper the opportunity to award tokens of gratitude to seven corporate sponsors of the festival.
“I want to thank everybody from the Peach Festival committee to the people at the Chamber of Commerce,” Napper said. “They really put in a lot of work, time and effort, and this is just a wonderful community that comes together for this great event.”
Napper said the Peach Festival allows people from all over come to Ruston and get a glimpse of the community at its best.
