Tech expects $400,000 grant

“The congressman called us last night,” Guice said. “They’ve worked really hard to get this in the bill, and we’ve been really pleased with how well they’ve worked with us for this. We can’t take this for granted.”
The money has only been earmarked in the House of Representative’s bill and still must wait for final approval.
“Once it makes it through the subcommittee and appropriations process, it’s usually considered a done deal,” Alexander said.
“We feel comfortable that it’s going to make it through and meet final approval.”

Choudrant: a repeat title?

In order to get into position on Saturday to defend its Class B Louisiana High School Athletic Association championship, Choudrant (26-8) will need to get past arguably the hottest team in the state during semi-final play this afternoon.
Runnels (18-9) checks in for the 1p.m. (ESPN 99.3) game at Alexandria’s Bringhurst Park with a four-game winning streak, 13 victories over the past 14 games and eight contests in which they flattened their opponent by no fewer than 11 runs.

JA, Darland play vital role in community

This year’s recipient is Nancy Darland. She shares many of the characteristics of the outstanding JA member for whom the award is named.
Darland is an advanced practice registered nurse and a professor at Louisiana Tech University. Her emphasis is on pediatric and maternal
nursing.
The Ruston Junior Auxiliary focuses its efforts on children, and Darland is the epitome of a deep concern for the children both in our community and our nation. She shows that concern through her volunteer activities which include Epsilon Sigma Alpha philanthropic sorority,

Ruston sparkles for judges

At the reception in the Civic Center, Margaret Simpson, the clean city chair and secretary of the local Sunset Garden Club, also took note of the student clean city poster winners, who were Jimmy Hebert and Ratez Eliot, both of Ruston Junior High School and Morgan Hitt of Bethel Christian School.
“We think you kids are really bright to think of this,” Simpson said.
“We hope you teach your friends not to litter also.”
