Students give back at Big Event

Robyn Crumby, the community service director for the SGA, said most of the campus organizations were participating.
“We have about 120 job sites listed — that’s a record high, I believe,” Crumby said. “We’ll disperse to our job sites, and the students will be window washing, raking leaves and picking up trash.
Each organization has one to five job sites between their organization.”
Sponsored by the SGA, Coca Cola, Aramark, Builder Supply and Tech’s athletic department, the Big Event has been going strong for at least seven years, said Lindsay Mencacci, SGA’s president.

Millsap raises game to next level

So Lyons did what most successful coaches do — he motivated and challenged his star senior to be a leader and take the Kittens back to Lafayette for the first time in three seasons.
“It speaks volumes for the program,” Grambling head coach Michael Lyons said of Millsap’s award. “That’s why I coach, to get the best out of your program.
“At end of the day, hopefully kids can be recognized for what they’ve done.”

Legislators secure much needed help

Both Sen. Bob Kostelka, R-Monroe, and Rep. Hollis Downs, R-Ruston, have worked to secure an extension of the current tax increment district status for the area along the Interstate 20 corridor in Lincoln Parish. If the 15-year extension is secured, that would help provide funding to the I-20 service road project, hopefully extending the roads west to Grambling and east to Rough Edge Road.

What was this column about?

Yeah, I know, if I lost the equivalent of another person, that would probably ease some of the pain, but nothing I do seems to work. When I exercise, it just seems to make me hungrier. When I diet, I don’t have the energy to exercise.
You might remember that my New Year’s resolution was an attempt at reverse psychology: I’d try to gain weight, and since my stabs at resolutions always failed, then I’d actually lose weight. Guess what?
For the first time in my life, my resolution was a success.

Community holds vigil for lost lives

Stacy Gilbert, athletic director in charge of academics at Tech, said this display was the result of an NCAA CHOICES grant.
“What I envision from the community is that they acknowledge that there is this challenge, and we are trying to make a difference with the choices our community makes,” Gilbert said. “We’ve never done anything like this before.”
Linda Griffin, a counselor at Tech, said getting this display ready was definitely a group effort.
