Techsters, ’Dogs seek tourney ‘gold

The No. 1 seed is the domain of the Lady Techsters (23-4, 15-1), who wrapped up their fifth straight league title on Saturday night with a 91-52 victory over Hawaii at the Thomas Assembly Center.
Ranked in the top 20 of both the Associated Press (No. 17) and USA Today/ESPN (No. 18) polls, the Techsters also gained a 14th consecutive regular season conference crown, the number also including
previous affiliation with the Sun Belt Conference.

Auction needs more items

The silent auction, which raises money for renovations to The Dixie Center for the Arts, will last from 6-8 with the winners of the prizes announced at 8:15.
A number of items have already been donated from businesses throughout the community, including a floral arrangement, massages and photography sessions. Door prizes have also been donated and will ge given away.
While the prizes for Downtown Delights are sure to draw a crowd, more help is needed from the community.

Children mix fun with studies

Walking inside the building, I immediately spotted two children dressed up with crowns on their heads: Queen Amber Williams and King Aaron Darby.
The third graders at the school were putting on a Mardi Gras parade Friday afternoon, and they were all dressed up — as were their teachers.

‘Out on the Town’ expands to two nights

Founder and Director of Louisiana Delta Ballet Missy Crain said it takes an immense effort to turn the Ruston Civic Center into the combination of tables for diners and floors for dancers required to stage a professional and memorable evening.
“We have been planning this conversion for months,” she said. “We have to have special lighting, we have to have special flooring and we have to have the right arrangement of everything in the room. All of that will come together to create just the environment we need. The key is that we must have all of the plans in place in only one day.”
