Champion now gets his turn

“I didn’t like being on the bench,” he admits. “It’s one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do, to just sit there and wait my turn. I wanted to be playing, but I knew that I had to wait it out and sooner or later I would get my chance.”
Now, the former Alabama prep star has his chance and he plans to make the most of it for Louisiana Tech University’s football team.

FCA classic keeps area legend alive

The local Fellowship of Christian Athletes director held a high school all-star basketball game this past weekend to honor one of our area’s legendary coaches, the recently-departed Rick Huckabay.
Butler took some of the best prep hoops players in Lincoln Parish, along with the surrounding parishes, and hosted two all-star games in honor of the late former Ruston High and Simsboro High boys coach.
While the games gave several local graduating seniors one last chance to strut their stuff on the court, the FCA classic is more about Huckabay and will hopefully continue on into the future.

Sexual violence a serious issue

I’m a member of it, but I’ve never been to any of the meetings. The dues are cheaper than any other organization I’m a part of: only $1.50 a year. I can’t buy a mocha for that price.
I sat down earlier this week with Corinne Barnickel, one of the members of the Association of Women Students, and learned just exactly what this growing organization is doing to support women not just at Tech, but in the entire community.

Northside bank invests in new shape

“We wanted to make a statement with this facility about how we feel about the northside of Ruston,” said FNB President Brian Woodard. “The Christ Community Church and the whole Toma Lodge area have set a tone which we wanted to follow. In fact, we will call this building the Toma Lodge Branch. We want this sign of our continued growth to show how we feel about the future for this part of our community.”
The two floors of the building will serve different purposes. The bottom floor will house the largest Ruston branch of FNB. The top floor will house the operations for all branches of the
