Trash issue recycled — once again

When a decision was made during Tuesday night’s meeting to spend nearly $100,000 to purchase a new compactor truck — the type of truck used to collect trash out of trash bins located throughout the parish — Juror Bobby Dowling asked if that meant the issue of possible curbside pickup was closed.
His question was met with an emphatic “No” by other jurors, as well as parish administrator and Engineer Richard Durrett and his assistant, Dennis Woodard.

Area artists sculpt admiration

The statistics tell part of the story, and it is an impressive part indeed. One hundred and forty-two adult artists from around the nation submitted 413 entries for the show, which is sponsored by CenturyTel.
Well known artist and educator Henry Finkelstein viewed the slide entries and accepted only 88 works from 74 artists for exhibition.
The show will be on display through April 29 and offers a wonderful opportunity for Lincoln Parish residents to admire the work of nine outstanding local artists who made it to the prestigious exhibition list.

Techsters tipoff tourney with FSU

“We should have had a higher seeding,” said senior point guard Tasha Williams about the club’s No. 11 slot for this weekend’s first/second round action. “We’re better than that, but there’s nothing we can do now except go out and prove that we’re a very good team. We’re ready to do it.”

GSU speaker highlights Women’s History Month

“Through this month, we celebrate the many contributions women have made throughout history and also celebrate progress towards equal rights with men,” GSU President Horace Judson said.
The keynote speaker for the event was Lueburda Jamison Myers, a woman Judson said “through her accomplishments and achievements, certainly represents a role model for this cause.”
Myers is a retired school teacher in the Caddo Parish School system and currently serves as the superintendent of recreation for the city of Shreveport.
