Women stitch place in heart

Athletes, politicians, business people, students, men, women, old and young, odds are at some time you’re going to interview someone in each group.
Sometimes you leave an interview feeling pretty good; sometimes you don’t. There are times you’re moved to tears, and there are times you share a laugh. Rarely are you left unchanged.
After you’ve been at this a while, you figure there’s not a lot that could surprise you — you get the feeling you’ve seen or heard it all.
Usually, that’s when you run into a situation that reminds you why you love this job so much.

Louisiana’s budget shortfall impacts everything and everybody. It has been indicated that State revenues may drop 30 percent or more because of the hurricanes. Obviously, we must modify our spending. Radiothon totals reveal caring hearts

The annual St. Jude Radiothon took place Monday and Tuesday. When a local goal of $140,000 was announced, not many people gave organizers much of a chance to reach that amount. At 5 p.m. Tuesday afternoon, Sean Fox, of ESPN Radio 99.3 who along with KXKZ and KPCH helped sponsor the event, told listeners the total stood at a little more than $101,000 — barely two-thirds of the total hoped for. With four hours until the radiothon’s end, it looked bleak.

Loved lady’s time has passed

I learned of Ellen’s passing through a message on my answering machine that evening.
My best friend’s grandmother, and close friend, was 88 years old.
At that age her death was bound to happen soon, many might have believed. But not her granddaughter. Looking at Ellen’s pictures during the visitation Tuesday she said, “I thought she would live forever. She wasn’t ready to go.”

Millsap grabs 28 rebounds in win

Prior to Louisiana Tech University’s Western Athletic Conference game against San Jose State at the Thomas Assembly Center, Bulldogs’ head coach Keith Richard told the junior power forward to go out and “get a bunch” of rebounds.
“I told him to get all of ‘em, every last one,” he said.
Well, Marvelous Millsap definitely got a bunch, pulling in a TAC record 28 and helping guide the Bulldogs (16-10, 9-4) to a 73-64 victory over the Spartans (6-18, 2-8) as just over 2,000 fans witnessed yet another awe-inspiring performance by the former Grambling High School star.

Senate passes amended levee bill

After failing to pass a levee board bill after a night of debate on Sunday, cooler heads prevailed and by a 39-0 vote, the Senate sent the House an amended version of Sen. Walter Boasso’s bill.
“We learned that on Sunday, when he (Boasso) was unwilling to compromise, he did it because Gov. Blanco told him not to compromise,” Sen. Bob Kostelka, R-Monroe, said.
