Knight: 876 wins, counting

With nearly 7,100 fans watching on at the Thomas Assembly Center, on one of the most special nights in Louisiana Tech University athletic history, Texas Tech held on for a 64-59 victory over the Bulldogs.
Make that 876 victories now for Knight, the same as the late and great University of Kentucky baron named Rupp. Both are now tied for second place on the all-time win chart for NCAA Division I men’s basketball, a mere three shy of Dean Smith.
It will be only a matter of time before Knight puts a check mark by that achievement.

Free training is ripe for the picking

These classes are excellent opportunities for different age groups to find a career path that suits them. Those who have been out working for years but are unsatisfied with their jobs or paychecks can obtain training that will qualify them for another field within a short period of time. Younger people who have little interest in pursuing an education beyond high school might discover a passion for one of these hands-on skills if they enroll in a core curriculum class.

A second look at pageants

The 2006 Mr. and Miss Lincoln Center winners were named this week, and two pre-school students went home with trophies and $50 gift certificates to Toys R Us. Twelve boys and girls dressed in their Sunday Best were escorted by family members across Lincoln Center School’s decorated gymnasium Tuesday morning only to take a seat before a crowd of parents, students, teachers and other community members including school board member George Mack. Each small child took his turn to stand up as the announcer read off his favorite teachers, colors and television programs.

Tech to hire firm to restructure athletics

“This plan includes specific strategies for the athletics department,” Reneau said. “Our storied athletics program will write new chapters of success in this initiative as champions who compete with integrity.”
Reneau’s comments come just one day after the university fired football coach Jack Bicknell following a season that saw the Bulldogs lose 10 games for the first time in school history.
