Use fireworks with caution

Lt. Danny Cross, with Lincoln Parish Fire District No. 1, said the department is expecting at least five calls involving fireworks and New Year’s Eve festivities. For those who shoot fireworks in Lincoln Parish, one thing to keep in mind is parental supervision.
“That way, if a small fire does get started, they can put it out quickly,” Cross said.
For those who opt to shoot fireworks outside the city limits, the following are safety tips to help ensure fireworks remain fun:

It’s true, I’m super important

Like everyone else in attendance, I usually scan the crowd to see what person would be so bold as to think they are important enough to deserve special recognition.
After all, we’re important in our own way. Sure, it is the elected officials and the high-ranking achievers among us that carry the most sway and the most clout, but it is the support of all of us “little people” who make that possible. The biggest stars on the planet would be nothing without a fan gathering to support them by buying their
albums, going to see their movies and buying their merchandise.

Youth conference to unfold soon

Students will first attend two workshops in January before moving on to the Youth and Government Conference scheduled March 1-3. CCA executive director Valena Lane said lodging and travel expenses will be completely covered for the students.
“We expect to take about 30 students (from District 11),” Lane said. “The conference is expected to have about 500 students from across Louisiana.”
