Every action results in reaction

I’m sorry, what about the family of the man who was killed? What about the pain they suffered from Diaz’s actions?
Here’s where I start playing devil’s advocate: I do have pity on Diaz’s family. After all, they were not involved in the murder, and Diaz, criminal or not, was their flesh and blood. I can’t — and don’t want to — imagine how I would feel if I were in their shoes. They lost a loved one to a murder that was committed nearly 30 years ago.

Local businesses heat up for Christmas

“We sell a lot of toys at this time,” she said of December.
As with previous years, Lewis’ Boutique needed seasonal help. Manager Jhola McGee said the sales start growing after Thanksgiving and build with each passing week.
“We expected (the increased business), and we haven’t been disappointed,” McGee said. “It builds and gets more hectic until Christmas Eve, and then it goes back to normal.”
She said fragrance sets and Vera Bradley luggage bags have been popular items this Christmas season.

Jury, Chamber resolutions still in limbo

At Wednesday’s December meeting, the resolution was again left off of the agenda and no discussion took place. When asked why it was not discussed, Williams said he had not officially received the resolution from the Police Jury.
“The Police Jury never officially brought the resolution to the Library Board of Control,” Williams said. “They never put it on our agenda to discuss. It seems they would rather pull me or George (Board member George Byrnside) to the side and ask us what we think.”

Marines mean real business

For some reason, I have suddenly developed this passion for reading again. And I have to say, my latest selection indicates a total departure from my former literary pursuits.
A former Marine named Wally Adamchik has written a book titled “No Yelling: The Nine Secrets of Marine Corps Leadership You Must Know to Win in Business.”

Library Board tables insurance decision

“It didn’t cost the Police Jury any money because of the number of retirees we have,” Parish Administrator Dennis Woodward said. “That more than made up our additional amount.”
Board chair Sam Williams said it seemed to him a change at this time did not make good economic sense for the library.
“Based on these totals, it would be better for the Library to pay 100 percent,” Williams said. “The IT and GIS folks got off of the Police Jury insurance, why can’t the Library get off?”

Frazier leads RHS all-staters

But does he ever get the job done.
He blocked and protected so well during his senior season with the Bearcats that he helped the running attack feature a 1,000-yard plus rusher and an overall offense be among the most successful in the Louisiana High School Athletic Association’s Class 5-A circles.
Frazier performed at such a high level that he’s also the lone first unit representative from Ruston High on the All-State squad announced today by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

Tackle tactics to stomp out drunk driving

If you are out on the roads this holiday season and notice driving that would indicate the vehicle operator is under the influence, do not keep quiet. Your call could save a life.
Additionally, if you are hosting a social gathering, make sure the people who attend are not allowed to drive off in an intoxicated state of mind. Dependable designated drivers should be made available.

The Grinch wears work clothes

One thing these groups have in common is they are forced to be boundary setters. They must tell others where the line is and then wait for some people to inevitably fall right over it. Sometimes they decide to be proactive and shout because someone appears to be hovering near the line. From my experience in the fourth listed occupation and hearing stories from a few who work in the other fields, I’ve concluded these jobs could turn the sweetest elf in Santa’s bunch into the Grinch in less time than it takes Rudolph to bury his red nose in chocolate.
