Parents play crucial role

This number of honorees was good, but it could have been higher. Last year, 235 students received this honor. During the Monday event, both Superintendent of Schools Danny Bell and the guest speaker Brenda Lofton, 2006 Louisiana Teacher of the Year, pointed to parents as playing a large role in student academic achievement.
“When expectations regarding academic achievement are part of a family’s way of life, the student is more likely to rise to the occasion (and do well in school),” Bell said.

’Cats, Bulldogs scrap in round No. 2

LPPJ, CVB reach agreement

• The CVB agrees to pay the Police Jury $80,000 per year to support the park until the conference center is ready for occupancy; and
• The CVB agrees to pay the Police Jury 1 cent of the 4-cent hotel/motel tax for 10 years after the conference center is ready for occupancy. The agreement would then be reevaluated after 10 years.
