Dixie links Ruston generations

With its reopening this past weekend, the Dixie can now link the past to the future — this current generation with four generations before it.
Growing up, my mother told me stories about the Dixie Theater. Of course, at that young age I didn’t understand the significance of the theater’s history.
Since its opening in 1928, the Dixie has served as a place to build memories for Ruston residents young and old.

Moats makes most of NFL debut

“When Jeremiah Trotter hit me,” he grinned.
Good answer.
Trotter is among the top defensive players in the league, a veritable one-man wrecking crew from his linebacking position with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Tech makes right move with Dillard

Dillard, like everyone in life, deserves due process of law. He deserves the chance to tell his side of the story and get a fair trial.

In response Dillard allegedly grabbed the girl’s arms and pinned her on the bed before taking off her clothes and raping her.

Fire department improves nutrition to alleviate fatigue

Ruston Fire Chief James Tornabene said firefighters expend enormous amounts of energy during a prolonged fire or a series of smaller fires and then eat “something” to replace those calories in case of another fire.
“Historically, that has been sodas, candy bars and greasy cheeseburgers,” Tornabene said. “Those foods are exactly what they don’t need. The worst foods for stress are simple sugars, fat and caffeine.”

Stress of job can pile on responders

Stress causes firefighters to suffer an inordinate number of heart attacks and is, in fact, their number one leading cause of death – more than the fire itself, collapsing buildings or other job-related accidents, Ruston Fire Chief James Tornabene said.
First responders sent to New Orleans to aid in hurricane relief efforts were exposed to events likely to cause critical incident stress, prompting Tornabene and police officials to focus on the issue.
