Consider consolidating your financial accounts

Should you buy term and invest difference?

Question: I just finished a very helpful course on personal finance at my church. Among the other changes my wife and I are making is evaluating our life insurance coverage. The course recommended that I buy term insurance and take the difference between what I pay for term and what I would have paid for a so-called whole life policy and invest it. They say I should have enough money by the time the term runs out. Sounds good to me. Is this a sound strategy?
Answer: “Buy term and invest the rest.”

Mark Berger to take over LNHA Board

The Louisiana Nursing Home Association Board of Directors announced the selection of Mark Berger to succeed its long-serving executive director Joe Donchess.
Donchess will continue as executive director until his retirement on Dec. 31.
Berger currently serves as LNHA’s Reimbursement Director and his experience at LNHA spans 26 years.
He has been a certified public accountant for 31 years.

Choudrant Elementary: Students open up school garden

New year brings new opportunities for faculty, staff

Kindergarten
The students are so excited about the new Kindergarteners at Choudrant Elementary School. The students have been very busy learning school rules, meeting new friends, counting, reading and writing. The student get to go to art, music, P.E., library and computer lab. The days are full. The students are also looking forward to celebrating Apple Day soon.
The students want to say a big thank you to the “Kindergarten Fairy.” Each year she brings us lots and lots of school supplies. Thanks to the fair for her giving heart.

Local couple celebrates golden wedding anniversary

Don and Ancie Parkman, of Ruston, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 30. The couple were married Sept. 30, 1966, at Emmanuel Baptist Church by Robert Magee. They have one daughter, Carmon Parkman, son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Jill Parkman; and three grandchildren, Sophia, Laina and Madyson.

Tech’s Waggonner Center to host ‘musical roundtable’ on early American history

Ruston architectural firm wins Members Choice, Merit Award

The Ruston architectural firm of Studio Brooks + Emory won two awards in the prestigious American Institute of Architects Louisiana Chapter Design Competition — the sought-after Members’ Choice Award and an Award of Merit.
The awards were given during the annual AIA LA Design Conference Awards Banquet, held on Sept. 10 in Lafayette.
